The idea for an East-meets-West sake brand originated in 2019 when Co-Founders Aurélien and Alexandre met on a trip to Asia.


A common passion for Japan and its culinary arts catalyzed the creation of MATERIA as a vehicle to share our fascination for the Japanese culture.


In early 2020, we fly to Japan to meet sake brewers in several regions of the country and establish a partnership with an ancestral brewery in Nagano Prefecture. 


We spend the rest of the year developing the MATERIA brand with the primary objective of demystifying sake and making it accessible to Western and Asian audiences through:

  •   An intelligible brand
  •   A clear sake-making process
  •   A high quality product.
